Since 1976
We’ve been the backbone of Canberra’s plumbing excellence
The Master Plumbers Association ACT represents plumbing contractors across Canberra and surrounding regions. Whether you're working solo or running a major firm, we make sure your voice gets heard where it counts.
We don't just speak for plumbers. We make sure the whole industry gets the respect it deserves.
We're your advocates when it matters. We sit in on policy meetings, show up to industry forums, and speak up when bureaucrats try to make your life harder.
Our History
Our Association started as part of the Master Plumbers and Sanitary Engineers Association of NSW back in the early 1950s. We were called the Master Plumbers and Sanitary Engineers Association of NSW, Canberra and District Branch.
Old meeting minutes reveal that in July 1975, members met at Yowani Golf Club. They decided they were tired of being managed from Sydney. The independent Master Plumbers and Sanitary Engineers Association of the ACT held its first meeting on February 4, 1976. This followed months of talks with the State office. George Kent became President, with Ray Butterfield as Secretary.
In August 1976, the Licensed Drainers Employers Association of the ACT shut down. Then, its members joined our new association.
The old Drainers association held a farewell dinner at the Lobby Restaurant on King George Terrace in Parkes. This event took place on Friday, August 20, opposite the old Parliament House. They started drinks at 7.30pm, dinner at 8pm. The Association picked up the tab for the three course meal, with 28 guests expected.
By the mid 80s, we became the Master Plumbers', Drainers' and Gasfitters Association of the ACT. We incorporated on 2nd February 1996.
